Biography
Dennis O'Hagan is an Irish/American songwriter and guitarist who has
been active in the music scene for 30 years. Playing in various
indie/alternative bands over the years, and also as a solo artist, he has
shared the stage with artists as diverse as the Violent Femmes, the
Church, Blue Oyster Cult, Bruce Hornsby, Afghan Whigs, as well as
many others. His most recent band, the Voodoo Loons, hailed from
both the US and Ireland, have released two critically acclaimed
albums, and are in rotation on SiriusXM as well as other global
streaming outlets. The song “Emerald” from the Voodoo Loons' 2008
debut album, has been rated one of the 100 best Celtic songs of all
time by the international Celtic Crush program. The Loons have also
headlined epic St. Patricks' Day parties on Cincinnati's Fountain Square
and the Historic Southgate House.
As a solo artist, while Dennis has played in places as diverse as Dublin
to San Francisco, New York to Miami, most of his solo efforts had
revolved around his current home in Cincinnati, OH, where he could be
found playing eclectic shows comprised of a mixture of his own songs,
Irish rock and folk tunes, and classic and sometimes obscure covers
(often pulled from the college/indie/folk rock era of the 80s and 90s).
Dennis' sets can be summarized as full of great songs that you forgot
you loved...and not the stale old classic rock dinosaurs that everyone
else plays!
In 2018 Dennis embarked on his Great Brewery Tour, which has him
playing solo/acoustic shows at craft breweries throughout the U.S.
(The 1st leg of the tour was Midwest breweries; 2nd Leg NY & New
England; 3rd leg Midwest & Mid-Atlantic breweries; 4th leg
Southeastern U.S., Etc.). After each show he posts on social media his
thoughts on the brewery and the beers he sampled that night.
